Dear Reader, Do you know what it’s like to be told, in the prime of life, that you’ll NEVER again be able to do the activities you enjoy? That’s what I was told by the medical community when, just a few years ago, I herniated 2 discs in my lower back. Surgery was my only option to avoid permanent nerve damage…or so I was told. I had always taken great pride in my active and athletic lifestyle, and to be given the diagnosis of ‘never again’ was beyond devastating. I was adamant about not undergoing surgery, yet at the same time my ability to walk, stand and even sit was decreasing day by day as a result of excrutiating sciatica. I was praying for a miracle at the same time that I hit absolute rock bottom.
Crawling around the floor of my apartment for weeks led me to a realization. My life like this was no longer worth living, and I could either choose to mentally walk down that dark dead-end path, submit to surgery (and all of its inherent risks) and hope for the best, or I could take responsibility for my own healing and HEAL. I chose the latter, and I’m so grateful I did. Over the next several months I made it my mission to seek out every available treatment, no matter how obscure. I was willing to do WHATEVER IT TOOK to heal. In this process I was slowly introduced to treatments some of which I’d never even heard of.
